Walnut Creek Pistol Team
Written By Cliff Snyder
Walnut Creek Rifle Club has a pistol team made up of some of the finest in the country. The team members are Jim Devine, John Kort, Ron and Elaine Gaczkowski, Mickey McBride and Cliff Snyder.
VIP League
The VIP League was the inspiration of John Holt, a probation officer from Meadville. His vision was to have competition that would be easy for beginners, wanting to make it enjoyable. In addition to the Walnut Creek team, there were teams from Cambridge Springs, Albion, Edinboro, Meadville and Saegertown. Some of the teams had 10 or more shooting members.
From April through July we sent scores once a month to the secretary of the league. Out of a field of six regular teams the Walnut Creek team came in second place, most of the months we shot. August 3rd there was a shoulder to shoulder competition in Saegertown with a picnic after. All of the teams attended the shoot off and picnic. We placed second at that final competition.
And lets not forget that we had a medal winner for high score at the shoot off by the name of Mickey McBride. Also, Jim Devine won a medal for high score in the email portion of the league. Judging by the turnout at the post season meeting, there is the promise of a bigger and better season next year.
Western New York Penn Pistol League
The shooting team is currently participating in the Western New York Penn Pistol League. Weekly scores are posted on this website.
